Where are you located?

Boat Pittsburgh operates from the 6 Mile Landing Marina in the Borough of Sharpsburg. (Formerly Silky’s Crows Nest.) Use Route 28N from Downtown, exit at RD Fleming Bridge/Sharpsburg (62nd Street Bridge). Head east on Main Street and take a right (toward the river) at 19th Street. Free public parking is available, after you have gone through the railroad tunnel and arrived in the marina parking lot. Look for our Boat Pittsburgh signs, too.

I want to rent a boat, what should I know?

Before you book your reservation, you will need to consider the following questions:

Who: Who are you? Who will be in your rental party? Who is the Operator? Who will be responsible for payment?

Where: Rental boats and their crews are PROHIBITED from “locking through”, that is, leaving the confines of the Pittsburgh Pool. The “Pittsburgh Pool” includes 25 navigable river miles on the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers surrounding the City of Pittsburgh. Its boundaries are defined by locks and dams at Emsworth on the Ohio; Braddock on the Monongahela; and Sharpsburg on the Allegheny.

When: Our boats are in high demand! The earlier you plan your trip, the more likely it is that you’ll get to reserve the date you desire. How long of a rental would you like to reserve? We offer half (4-hr) and full day (8-hr) rentals. Time slots vary, see item descriptions for specifics.

How many people can fit on the boat?

Eight people (including children) or 1435 lbs is our maximum capacity. Those eight people may bring food, coolers, personal bags, etc. It is AGAINST THE LAW to overload a boat, so please keep that in mind when planning your trip. We will turn you away if you have too many people and/or stuff. Please don’t make us do that.

What is included in the rental fee?

One Personal Flotation Device (PFD) for each crew member (We have many children’s sizes, too!) is included with your pontoon boat rental, as well as all US Coast Guard required onboard safety equipment and a First Aid kit.

How much can I expect to pay for a rental?

Boat Pittsburgh offers pontoon boat rentals – either four or eight hours – between sunrise and sunset. We have incentivized the pricing structure to ensure a full day tour is the best deal for you because we want you to be able to live it up!

We also want you to be able to plan your trip and anticipate an accurate total cost for your adventure. You are responsible for the rental fee (listed below) and applicable PA taxes. Boat fuel is now included in the cost of your rental.

2019 Rates*

Half Day (4 hours) – $325 + tax

Full Day (8 hours) – $425+ tax

*Rates may vary on holidays and for special events.

Once you have reserved your rental date and time, we’ll ask you to pay a $100 deposit to hold your reservation. Your deposit will be credited toward the total cost. Cash and major credit cards are accepted. (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) No personal checks. The balance is due anytime from booking to the day of the rental.

Is boating safe for children and babies?

Yes, if the proper precautions are taken and the laws are followed. Children of any age are permitted to come boating with their guardians. Children 12 years and younger are required to wear a life jacket (Personal Flotation Device) at all times, including when children are dockside. We provide child and/or infant life jackets if you let us know the approximate weight of each child in your rental party. Sizes are Infant (-30lbs); Child (30-50lbs); and Youth (50-90 lbs).

What if the weather sucks?

Unfortunately, the weather in Pittsburgh will occasionally suck. This is not an excuse to abandon your reservation without notice and doing so will forfeit your Reservation Deposit. Here’s our cancellation policy:

Any reservation may be cancelled up to 48 hours (two days) before the rental start time for a full refund of the Reservation Deposit. Most cancellations initiated by Boat Pittsburgh will result in reimbursement of the Reservation Deposit. Reservation Deposit will not be refunded for cancellations initiated by the customer less than 48 hours (two days) before the rental start time unless the cancellation is due to inclement weather or other approved emergency.

Here is our Inclement Weather Policy:

Inclement weather will be defined as a weather report indicating a greater than 60% chance of precipitation during more than 60% of the reserved rental period hours. For the purpose of this determination, Boat Pittsburgh will rely on the hourly weather forecast available on The Weather Channel (TWC) mobile app. Inclement weather may also include National Weather Service warnings for lightning, thunderstorms, unsafe conditions, flooding, heavy rain, or heavy wind within eight (8) hours of the scheduled rental time. Customers may receive a pro-rated reimbursement of rental fees where inclement weather or safety related cancellations cause the rental period to end prematurely. Reservation Deposit will not be refunded for rentals that end prematurely due to negligence of the operator or where rentals end prematurely without meeting the criteria for inclement weather.

Do you provide an Operator to drive the boat?

No. Boat Pittsburgh provides self-captained pontoon boat rentals. Someone in your group must be willing and eligible to operate the boat.

Can I throw a bachelorette/bachelor/retirement/engagement/birthday party on the boat?

Absolutely! And we encourage it. It is a unique experience, one everyone should enjoy on their special day.

May I drink alcohol on the boat?

For the Operator of the boat: Just like driving a car, it is ILLEGAL to operate a watercraft on all the waters of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, and/or a controlled substance. For the Crew: Within our operating area, it is LEGAL to drink on a boat. However, laws such as public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and underage drinking apply to all passengers onboard. Please don’t ruin it for everyone.

Is there a bathroom on the boat?

Sorry, no toilet on the boat. The most convenient spot is at Point State Park, near the fountain. You may dock alongside the edge and let crew members off to use the public facilities. There is one along both the Allegheny and Monongahela sides of the point.

Are there outlets/USB ports on the boat?

Yes! There is an Aux adaptor with USB port and an AC/DC socket for charging/streaming music. Also, the Polk stereo has Bluetooth to connect to your device.

May I use a grill on the boat?

Sorry, no grills allowed.

May I bring my pet along?

Sorry, no pets allowed.

May I tow a tube/ski/wakeboard behind the boat?

Sorry, we do not allow towing of any objects behind the boat. The boat is not equipped with this capability.

May I rent a boat to watch the fireworks?

Sorry, at this time we do not allow rentals after dusk.
